Elements & Principles of Design Scavenger Hunt

Description: For this assignment, we had to go on a scavenger hunt and take pictures that portrayed the elements of art and principles of design. We were then assigned to make it into a presentation that included the name of the element/principle, a specific grade level definition, and pictures for the element/principle. My partner and I chose 6-8 for our grade level. The link to the presentation and five of my pictures are below.

Pattern/Repetition: Uses the art elements in planned or random repetitions
The pink and purple design is repeated throughout the computer bag.

Emphasis: Create dominance and focus in their work
I took this photo because the red catches the viewers attention since it is bright compared to the black.

Space: An area within a painting that creates feeling of depth
I chose this picture, because it showcases the height, width, and depth of the land.

Contrast: Differences in values, colors, textures, shapes, and other elements
The black and white are complete opposite colors and create a vibrant and eye catching visual.

Rhythm/Movement: The repetition of visual movement of the elements
The ripples in the water shows that the water is moving.

Extension Activity: I would have students add writing into this project. Students would pick one of the pictures that they took and create a story or write a simple paragraph on why they chose that picture. This allows students to be as creative and imaginative as they want while still incorporating writing into this activity.
