Van Gogh Collage
Description: We first start by learning about Van Gogh and look at one of his most famous works, "A Starry Night". We then talked about what we saw in the painting and elements and principles that we saw also. We then were to write three sentences about what we learned from the Van Gogh lesson. Then, for this project, we selected tissue paper, tore it up, and laid it on our construction paper with a white-glue paste and covering the entire paper for the background of the project, I chose colors that represented the Northern Lights. Once the background was dry, I took oil pastels and added lines and movement to the background. I then picked a landscape to glue onto the bottom of the page, I chose to do a mountain range. When everything was glued down, we added bold lines to our landscape to make it stand out and add detail to the artwork.
Extension Activity: An extension activity that I would do is a reflection piece of their entire artwork. In their reflection, they will write about why they picked the color of tissue paper that they used, the landscape they have, and why the certain lines and movements that they added with oil pastels. They will also reflect if they added anything to their piece that resembles their personality, any emotions, or represents a certain memory that they have.
