2D Snowflakes

Description: For this activity, we talked about what snowflakes are and how each one is different and unique. We followed each teachers snowflake design and then we were able to create our own. The two snowflakes on top are the teachers designs and the bottom on is the one that I created. After cutting out our snowflakes, we glued all three of them on blue construction paper in any way we wanted our snowflakes to be displayed. Once we finished glueing them on, we used glue to create designs on the snowflake that we created. We then put salt all over the glued design to create a textured frozen look. After we put salt on our snowflake we used watercolors to add color to the salt. I lightly used the blue watercolor to create a light blue color for mine. When everyone was done, we did a gallery walk with everyone's snowflake and had to write three things that we noticed or liked in our peers snowflake designs.

Extension Activity: An extension activity could be integrating science into this project. You could teach about the process of how snowflakes are made and how each one is unique, and the winter season altogether. Students could look at all the different designs of snowflakes and their creation process and compare their snowflakes that they created to ones that they have researched and looked at.
