Stained Glass Turkeys

Description: This activity, we first learned what stain glass is. Then to create our turkeys, we use painter's tape to make the head and feathers of the turkey. We also used a skinnier tape to make the different sections in each of the feathers. After we were done taping, we painted the feathers. We had to have two primary colors, two tints, and two secondary colors. My primary colors that I did were red and yellow. My secondary colors were green and orange. My tints were the light blue and light green. Some other colors that I did were black and purple. Once we finished the feathers, we then added a beak and eyes to our turkey's face. Once the paint was dry, we were able to peel off all the tape and reveal our painting.

Extension Activity: An extension activity could be to have students write a short story about their turkey and a trip that it went on. Students will name their turkey and come up with a wild story that their turkey did on a random trip that the students come up with. This will not only help students with their writing skills but also push them to be creative and imaginative in their stories as well. When all the stories are written, students can share their stories to the class if they want to also.
